The Challenge

How can we utilize Machine Learning/Visual Inspection to take industrial asset inspection to a whole new level?

Traditional methods of industrial asset inspection often fall short in terms of efficiency, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness. Manual inspections are time & labor-intensive, prone to errors, and can lead to missed defects or inaccuracies in assessments. The sheer volume of assets, combined with the need for timely maintenance, further complicates the process and increases operational costs.

In this specific case, our customer needed to automate & upgrade the inspection & maintenance process for wind turbine blades. Their length (up to 100m), position high up in the air and often remote locations, where part of the challenges when it comes to manual inspection.

This is what we did

Recognizing the need for a smarter approach to asset inspection, we developed VBAII, a cutting-edge Visual AI Inspection platform. By leveraging the power of AI technologies such as TensorFlow and Python, we have automated the inspection process, significantly reducing time and costs while improving accuracy and reliability.

We built a platform that collected drone images of each individual blade. Each blade was photographed from the air and then using photo recognition, we merged those images to get digital integral overview of the blade's integrity. We introduced different Machine Learning models using TensorFlow, and Python, to segment the photo data, introduced another anomaly detection model and at the top, created a model for classification of detected anomalies, by assigning score & severity assessment.

The entire process is fully visualized and displayed to the system user through UI. With our expertise in .NET Core, React, and Angular, we designed an intuitive user interface that simplifies the process of uploading drone collected images for inspection. Integration with AWS and Azure ensures scalability, security, and seamless deployment, while Kubernetes facilitates efficient management of the application.
